What happens when sulphur reacts with nitric acid?

When sulphur reacts with nitric acid , it will form sulphuric acid , nitrogen dioxide and water. The reaction is as follows :
S + 6HNO3 H2SO4 + 2H2O + 6NO2

NUTRAL SIMPLE
  • 1
S + HNO3 = 6H2SO4+ 2H2O + 6NO2
Nitric acid, being an oxidizing agent, will then cause the other reactant, meaning sulphur to get oxidized. Sulphur will then get oxygen atoms, which will give equate out to H2SO4 in the end. In the meanwhile, nitric acid itself will undergo reduction, thus removing oxygen atoms, to end up as NO2 gas. It's a redox reaction
