What is a switch ?How does it help in an electric circuit?

An electric switch is an electrical component which helps circuit by controlling current flow.

When you switch on the switch of fan then only it works. How it works? When you set switch in on position it completes the circuit and current from the mains reaches the fan and it rotates. Similarly when you set it at off position, it breaks the circuit thus current flow stops and fan stop rotating.
