WHAT IS AN INSTITUION?

An institution may refer to an organised structure established for a particular purpose. It has set rules, procedures within which it operates. In the context of politics, there are political institutions like the Parliament, the executive, the judiciary , the Bureaucracy etc which create, enforce and apply laws.

The word institute can be used in place of institution. It is any mechanism or structure of social order as well as cooperation that governs the behavior of a set of individuals in a given community.
