The region in the chromosome where the two sister chromatids are attached and which helps the chromosomes in its attachment with the spindle fibres is known as centromere or kinetochore.

The centromere is an region where sister chromatids are joined

Basically a point of attachment between sister chromatids is called centromere. Cohesins(proteins)are responsible for this attachment.

It has an important function in cell division (both mitosis and meiosis).
It attach the centromere to the spindle fibre emerging during late prophase.
Kinetochore is the proteins attaching to microtubules and there formation is lead by this centromere.

Hope my explanation makes you clear about it.
Thank you very much.
