What is commutative property and distributive property ? Explain.

Dear student

Commutative property means that changing the order of numbers does not change the result.
Commutative Property of Addition: It states that changing the order of addends does not change the sum, i.e., a + b = b + a.
Example: 2 + 3 = 3 + 2
Commutative Property of Multiplication: It states that changing the order of factors does not change the product, i.e., a × b = b × a.
Example: 4 × 7 = 7 × 4
Addition and multiplication are commutative where as subtraction and division is not commutative over rational numbers.

The distributive property of multiplication over addition (or subtraction) states that multiplying a sum (or difference) by a number is the same as multiplying each of the numbers by that number and then adding (or subtracting) the two products.
Example: 3 × (2 + 4) = (3 × 2) + (3 × 4)
  3 × (2 – 4) = (3 × 2) – (3 × 4)
