What is complex reflex action?

Dear Student,

In our body, interneurons are in the spinal cord. When an interneuron participates in a reflex, there is more than one synapse, and these reflexes (where more than one synapse is generated) are then called complex reflexes.

First of all, a reflex action is an operation of the peripheral nervous system which completely bypasses the central nervous system, meaning the use of the spinal cord and the brain. ... What qualifies it as a complex reflex action would be the number of synapses the stimulus has to travel through to initiate the response
