What is Electron Transport Chain?

Electron transport chain is a series of reactions in which electrons are passed from one carrier to another, and finally to oxygen, resulting in the formation of water as well as NADH and FADH2 are oxidized to release the energy stored in them.

The electron transport chain (aka ETC) is a process in which the NADH and [FADH2] produced during glycolysis, B-oxidation, and other catabolic processes are oxidized thus releasing energy in the form of ATP. The mechanism by which ATP is formed in the ETC is called chemiosmotic phosphorolation.
