zener diode is made to work in reverse bias condition of p-n junction , and its heavily doped ..

so, this heavily doped is to increase the electric field strength of the zener diode , so, that it can break the covalent bond between the electron and holes ..

for that reason it will ionise the region or field near it ..

thats called as ionisation field of zener diode ..
