what is green revolution.what are its effects and causes

Green revolution refers to the increase  in agricultural production due to mechanised agriculture, use of High yielding variety of seeds,chemical fertilizers, pesticides, etc.

The causes of Green revolution are:

1) Better irrigation facilities.
2) Mechanisation of agriculture by use of tractors, tubewells, etc.
3) Use of chemical fertilizers has increased food production.
4) Use of HYV (high yielding variety) seeds.
5) Multiple cropping, terrace cropping.

The effects of Green Revolution are:

1) Yield per hectare has increased.
2) Food production has increased.
3) Imports of rice and other food items has increased.
