What is heteroatoms ?

Dear student, a heteroatom is any atom that is not carbon or hydrogen. It is a non-carbon atoms that have replaced carbon in the backbone of the molecular structure. Examples of heteroatoms are nitrogen, oxygen, sulfur, phosphorus, chlorine, bromine, and iodine. Regards,
