Homogametes are the gametes that are similar in morphology. For example, female gametes (XX) in humans and other mammals.

If the gametes of male and female are similar in size and appearance, they are called homogametes.

Their genetic composition is obviously different but are similar in size and appearance. By mere looking at the morphology of homogametes they cannot be differentiated into male and female gametes.
