Alight-emitting diode(LED) is asemiconductorlight source.When a light-emitting diode is switched on,electronsare able to recombine withholeswithin the device, releasing energy in the form ofphotons. This effect is calledelectroluminescence, and the color of the light (corresponding to the energy of the photon) is determined by the energyband gapof the semiconductor.

LEDs have many advantages over incandescent light(conventional lamps) sources including

LED is a light emmitting diode. It is a semiconductor device comprising of diode. When switched on, electrons combine with holes giving out energy and light. Colour of light emitted by LED is determined by energy gap in semiconductor.
