What is meant by dehicence of dry fruits? and how it is affected by ethylene?

Dear student,

Dehiscence is the spontaneous splitting open of a plant structure on maturation. For example, the fruits on maturation dehisce to release seeds. Ethylene along with ABA involve in the â€‹promotion of normal floral organ abscission through the manipulation of genes encoding cell wall hydrolysis enzymes such as polygalacturonase. The supression of those gene â€‹causes to extend fruit firmness during ripening and thus formed a dehiscence zone in dry fruits.
