What is meant by xylem vessels..

Xylem is a complex tissue found in plants. Xylem vessels are the component of xylem tissue, that help in conduction of water from roots to other parts of the plant.
Characteristics of xylem vessels -
  1. They have long cylindrical and tubular structure. These vessels are made up of many cells that are known as vessel elements.
  2. Vessel members are the characteristic feature of angiosperms.
  3. They are deprived of protoplasm or are dead.
  4. Each vessel element has lignified walls and possess central cavity
  5. They are interconnected through their common walls. Perforations are found in the common walls of the vessel members.
