What is palk - strait?
Dear Student,
- Palk Strait is a physical barrier that divides the sea-borders of the Indian subcontinent from Sri Lanka.
- It is named after Robert Palk, a governor of Madras Presidency during the colonial rule.
- It is the direct link to the Palk Bay that divides the Bay of Bengal (in the north) from Gulf of Mannar (in the south).
- It is a long strait of about 64 to 140 km with several rivers flowing into it.
