‘Potential’ literally means capable of doing something or that which is possible.

 Electric potential is defined as the work done in bringing a unit positive charge from infinity to a given point at a certain distance against an electric field of a charge.

The electric potential at a distance ‘r’ from a charge ‘q’ is,

The energy possessed by a body by virtue of its position relative to others, stresses within itself, electric charge, and other factors, is known as potential energy.

Electric potential difference between two points in an electric circuit carrying some current is the work done to move a unit charge from one point to the other-

SI unit is volt (V).
