What is stericity

• The more appropriate word would be steric or sterically.​​​
• This refers to the spatial arrangement of atoms occupying some degree of space to form a molecule.
• Steric effect effects the shape of molecule, its energy and also its chemical properties.
• Sometimes the same molecule even exists in two different conformations and one conformation might predominate over the another.
• For example Butane exists in two conformations due to the rotation of bond between C2 and C3.
