WHAT IS THE CHEMICAL EFFECT OF THE ELECTRIC CURRENT

Dear Student, Chemical effects of electric current is the property through which chemical reactions can be achieved in molecules when current is passed through them. For ex- when current is passed through water, water ionises or disassociates into H+(aq) and OH-(aq) ions, where H+(aq) ions go towards the cathode to gain electron to become stable and form H2 molecules and OH-(aq) ions go towards the anode to lose electrons and become stable, and, thus release O2 molecules.Regards

Dear Student,

Dear Student,

Electricity is the flow of electrical charges.

When electric current passes through a conducting solution, it causes chemical reactions .This is called electrolysis and the effect is chemical effects of electric current.

Chemical effect of electric current may cause :-

1) Formation of gas bubbles at the electrodes
2) Deposit of metal on the electrodes
3) Change in colour of the solution

Main chemical effect of electric current are :-

Phenomena of electrolysis:

This phenomenon of electrolysis is an important chemical effect of electric current. In a metallic conductor, the electric current is due to the movement of free electrons, there is no chemical and physical change.but their is generation of heat .However,in these electrolytes the electric current is due to the movement of ions. In this process of electrolysis, two metal rods are immersed in an ionic solution and connected to the two ends of a battery. Two different ions produced will be at two different electrode such as cathode and anode. Michael Faraday was the first to carry out this experiment. Electroplating is it's application.

Hope it Hel-ps!!
