What is the difference between an Oxymoron and an Antithesis?

Dear student,

Technically, in antithesis a striking opposition or contrast of words or sentiments is made in the same sentence.
Oxymoron is a special form ofAntithesis, whereby two contradictory qualities are predicted at once of the same thing.
In simple terms: antithesis presnets two contrasting ideas whereas oxymoron (a type of antithesis) presents two contrasting terms (words/phrases).
For example: Landing on the moon was a small step for man but a huge leap for mankind.- two contrasting ideas in antithesis.
Deafening silence: two contradictory qualities presented by contrasting words in oxymoron.
