Example - Parents are boastful about their children.
Boasting, on the other hand, means to speak with pride about oneself, one's achievements and possessions.
Example - The sales person was boasting about the sales he made in the last month.
While the two terms refer to the same thing, boastful is an adjective, while boasting can be used both as a noun and adjective.
