what is the difference between F1 generation and F2 generation ? (2 marks)

F₁ (First filial  generation) generation is the generation obtained by crossing the first set of distinct parents (Parental generation).   The parents are two pure lines ( inbred lines) in case of plants and related species in case of animals.

F₂ generation  (Second filial  generation) is the generation that is obtained by selfing the F₁ generation. The F₂ generations shows inconsistency with reference to types of offsprings produced. Different types of offsprings are produced, some showing only dominant phenotyes, some showing mixture of dominant and recessive phenotypes , while the remaining show only recessive phenotypes.
