What is the function of fossa ovalis in human heart?

Fossa ovalis is a structure present inside the human heart. This is a shallow depression, forms in the right atrium just after birth, which helps in the seperation of human heart into two parts, right and left. Thus allowing blood to pass from the right to the left atrium as well as efficiently distributing the oxygenated blood throughout the body.
