What Is The Function Of Muramic Acid And Peptidoglycan In Cell Wall Of Blue Green Algae?
Muramic acid is a component of peptidoglycan present in form of N-acetyl muramic acid in the cell wall of blue green algae. Basic functions of peptidoglycan layer in cell wall is to:
- provide tensile strength and support to the cell wall.
- protect the cell from the action of harmful chemicals (antibiotics)
- allow sufficient transport of nutrient and metabolites.
