What is the function of villi in small intestine..????

Dear Student, Villi are the numerous finger like projections, whose walls are richly supplied with blood capillaries and lymph vessels. They are able to contract and relax continuously, thus bringing themselves into close contact with the food in the small intestine. The individual cells on the surface of the viili possess free tiny microvilli on their free surfaces, these features greatly increase the surface area of the small intestine (These projections increase the surface area of the small intestine for efficient food absorption). Villi are tiny, finger-like projections from the wall of the small intestine. They line the inner surface of the small intestine. Their role is to increase the surface area within the small intestine. This will lead to the increase of the surface area of absorption as it is the main function of the small intestine.

Villi are small finger like projections present in the small intestine. The villi help in increasing the surface area of the small intestine hence decreasing the pressure for a better absorption of nutrients from the food we eat. Also it contains blood capillaries which help in the transport of the digested food to all the other parts of our body.
