What is the lateral surface area and total surface area of a cuboid?

Lateral Surface Area of Cuboid = Sum of Areas of its four sides

     = (Length x Height) + (Width x Height) + (Length x Height) + (Width x Height)

     = 2{(Length x Height) + (Width x Height)}

= 2( lh + bh)                    [ As its width is equal to its breadth]

     = 2h( l + b)

Now, Total Surface Area of the Cuboid is the sum of the areas of all its faces

= Lateral Surface Area + Area of Bottom + Area of Top

      = (2lh + 2bh) + lb + lb

      = 2lh + 2bh + 2lb

      = 2(lb + bh + lh)

Hope it helps.

well, the lateral surface area of cuboid is 2h(l+b) and the total surface area of cuboid is 2(lb+bh+hl)

  • 2

lateral surface area= 2h(l+b) and total surface area=2(lb+bh+hl).

Lateral surface area of cuboid is the area of the faces at its sides, which includes 4 faces. It is given by the formula , '2h( l + l)' ( h= height, l = lenghth, b= breadth).

Total surface area of a cuboid is the total area of its surface,i.e. of all its faces, including the bases. It is given by the formula, ' 2( lb + bh + lh )' (l = lenght, b =breadth, h= height) .

L.S.A OF A CUBOID= 2(l+b)h

C.S.A OF A CUBOID= 2(lb+lh+bh)

total surface area of cuboid is 2(length x breadth + breadth x height + height x length)

lateral surface area of cuboid is 2 x height (length + breadth)

for example:-  dimensions of a cuboid are 3cm x 2cm x 4cm

                          total surface area = 2(lb + bh + hl)

                                                           = 2(3cm x 2cm + 2cm x 4cm + 4cm x 3cm)

                                                           = 2(6cm2 + 8cm2 + 12cm2)

                                                           = 2 x 26cm2

                                                           = 52cm2

                       lateral surface area = 2h(l+b)

                                                            = 2 x 4cm (3cm + 2cm)

                                                            = 2 x 4cm (5cm)

                                                            = 2 x 20cm2

                                                            = 40cm2

The L.S.A of a cuboid is 2h(l+b) sq.units

and the T.S.A of a cuboid is 2(lb+bh+lh)sq.units where l is the height,b is the breadth and h is the height.
