What is the main function of battery and which thing made a battery.please explain.
Dear Student,
A battery is an electrochemical device that stores chemical energy which can be converted into electrical energy, thereby providing a direct-current voltage source. The chemical reactions in a battery involve the flow of electrons from one material (electrode) to another, through an external circuit. The flow of electrons provides an electric current that can be used to do work.
Although the term “battery” is properly applied to a group of two or more electrochemical cells connected together electrically, both single-cell and multicell devices are called battery.
A typical battery needs these parts to create electricity:
• Cathode (positive side of the battery): A combo of manganese dioxide and carbon, cathodes are the electrodes reduced by the electrochemical reaction.
• Separator: Non-woven, fibrous fabric that separates the electrodes.
• Anode (negative side of the battery): Made of powered zinc metal, anodes are electrodes that are oxidized.
• Electrolyte (a chemical paste that separates the anode and cathode and transforms chemical energy into electrical energy): Potassium hydroxide solution in water, the electrolyte is the medium for the movement of ions within the cell. It carries the iconic current inside the battery.
• Collector Brass pin in the middle of the cell that conducts electricity to the outside circuit.
