What is the maximum number of organisms in a food chain?
Length and complexity of the food chain vary greatly because same organism can be consumed by two more other kind of organism. Generally in a terrestrial food chain three to four levels can be present. But in an aquatic ecosystem due to great variety in fauna and presence of successive level of carnivory, many more trophic levels can be added there, in an aquatic food chain.
