What is the meaning of the term radical free here

Dear student

Free radicals are the neutral species (atoms or groups) which contain an unpaired electron. 

Free radicals are formed by homolytic cleavage.

  • Homolytic Cleavage:

  • One of the electrons of the shared pair in a covalent bond goes with each of the bonded atoms.

  • The movement of the single electron takes place, instead of a pair of electrons.

  • Homolytic cleavage can be represented as,
