"in periphery carbeater seals were streching and sunning themselves on ice floes much like stray dogs will under the sade of abanyan tree. it was nathing short of revelation: everything does inded connect.

Crabeater is a type of seals mainly found in Antarctica. The narrator is arguing that the crabeater seals were relaxing and sun-bathing themselves over the floating ice. This seemed to him quite similar (though in a paradoxical way) to the way stray dogs relax themselves under the shade of Banyan on a hot sunny day. To visualise such surroundings was like a revelation. The narrator was able to come to terms with these epiphanies and make connections.
