Prefix refers to a group of letters added to the beginning of a word to make a new word. Examples of prefixes are: mis, dis, re, for, anti, un, in, etc.

Mis+take= mistake

Suffix refers to the letters added to the end of a main word. Examples of suffixes are: ed, ful, ly, ing, able, ance, ence, ness etc.

Harm+less= harmless
