What is the reason for uneven distribution of population in India?
- Uneven topography leads to uneven distribution of population. Like in the himalayan region...because of hilly region, there is sparse population, whereas in the Ganga plain, due to fertilie soil and non hilly land, leads to dense population.
- Harsh climatic conditions also affect the population. For example, very hot regions like Rajasthan or cold snow covered regions of J&K have unfavourable and harsh climate. Livelihood activities like agriculture and animal rearing cannot be done throughout the year. Thus, these regions have low population.
