The increase in dimensions of a body due to increase in its temperature is called thermal expansion.

The expansion in length is called linear expansion, expansion in area is area expansion and expansion in volume is called volume expansion. The relation between corresponding coefficients of expansion is given by

Coefficient of superficial expansion is same as coefficient of area expansion.
