Omprakash Valmiki describes his life as an untouchable, or Dalit, in the newly independent India of the 1950s. "Joothan" refers to scraps of food left on a plate, destined for the garbage or animals. India's untouchables have been forced to accept and eat joothan for centuries, and the word encapsulates the pain, humiliation, and poverty of a community forced to live at the bottom of India's social pyramid.

Although untouchability was abolished in 1949, Dalits continued to face discrimination, economic deprivation, violence, and ridicule. Valmiki shares his heroic struggle to survive a preordained life of perpetual physical and mental persecution and his transformation into a speaking subject under the influence of the great Dalit political leader, B. R. Ambedkar. A document of the long-silenced and long-denied sufferings of the Dalits, Joothan is a major contribution to the archives of Dalit history and a manifesto for the revolutionary transformation of society and human consciousness.

Hi mate!
Om prakash valmiki was born in a dalit family. Due to this, he wasn't allowed to study at all. He was made to clean his school grounds. He was not allowed to sit on the mat and was made to sit on the floor at the corner of the classroom.
One day by the orders of the principal he had to clean the school ground. Fortunately, his father saw him. He asked him and after knowing the complete thing the school had done with his son all these years, he was terribly angry and went to the principal and said that one day he will become such a great man that everyone will respect him. After that his father took his son by hand and left the school.
Thanks
Regards

Indian constitution is known as a living document because of the following reasons :
  1. Indian Constitution can be changed according to the requirement and the needs of the present society and its future, it is not a constant and static document rather it is fluid and it can be changed by the process of amendment.
  2. The Constitution is open to interpretation by the Supreme Court after understanding the society and the basic foundational values of the constitution.
