What is weaver's cooperative?How government helps the cooperatives?



1)  In a cooperative people with common interests come together and work for their mutual benefit. Such cooperatives reduce the dependence on the merchants and enable the weavers’ to earn higher income

2)  In a weavers’ cooperative, the weavers form a group and take up certain activities collectively. They procure yarn from the yarn dealers and distribute them among weavers.

3)  They also does marketing role also thereby making the merchant interference less and enable the weavers to get fair price on the cloth.

4)  The government also helps the cooperatives by buying cloth from them at reasonable price. For instance, Tamil Nadu government runs Free School Uniform programme by which the government procures cloth from power loom weavers’ cooperatives.

5)  In the same way, government also buys cloth from handloom weavers’ cooperatives and sells it through cooperative stores or societies known as Cooptex.
