For the purpose of estimation of population in India Census method of data collection is used.
census refers to the procedure of systematically recording information about the members of a given population. It is done periodically to determine the population and other demographic details of a certain area.
In India, census is conducted once every 10 years , last census was conducted in 2011 which recorded a population of 121 crore and next census will be conducted in 2021
