What thought's did the narrator have after getting down from the summit ?

The Summit Within--H.P.S.Ahluwalia

The narrator, Major H.P.S.Ahluwalia, was overawed but also riddled with doubts--once he climbed down the Everest. Amidst the greatness of the act, he wondered why he undertook the expedition in the first place. He wondered why "the act of reaching the summit have such a hold on my imagination?" He wondered if the expedition becomes a mere figment of his memory and fade with time, what, if at all, would remain of the great climb.

Hope this helps. Best.
