what was the reaction of the king after he heard the reason given by the architect?

When the architect pointed out that the construction of the arch was undertaken according to some final amendments that the king himself had made, he realised that he was in a tricky situation. In all fairness, the king himself was the culprit. According to the wisest man in the country, when the arch itself was being taken to be hung, the people refused to put through such a shameful ordeal something that had touched the head of the king. Since it was absolutely necessary for someone to hang, a high noose was made. But only one man fitted it, so the King himself was hung by royal decree.
