what were the authors objection to the cutting of her hairs ?

Zitkala-Sa had learnt from her mother that only unskilled labourers, cowards and mourners got their hair shortened or shingled. Hence, Zitkala Sa resisted to letting her hair being cut as she was neither of the above three and she did not want to be labelled as one of them either.
