what were the indignities that zitkala-sa had suffered since the day she was taken from her mother?

Zitkala suffered many indignities from the day she was taken away from her mother. She was stared at and treated like a wooden puppet. Her long hair was cut. She was forced to wear clothes that were considered undignified in her culture. Whenever she cried for her mother, there was no one to comfort her. She always felt alone and thrown into new surroundings where she had to bear with the insensitive behaviour of people who considered themselves superior.
