What would have happened to the mummy if Carter had not detached it from the coffin

Dear Student, 

The Tut was buried with many precious ornaments. If Carter had not detached the mummy of Tut from its coffin, thieves would have ransacked the coffin to steal the gold ornaments and other precious jewellery.
