when ammonium chloride is heated in a test tube a white deposit appears at the top of the tube explain

Sublimation is the process by which a solid directly changes into the liquid state. When ammonium chloride is heated, it sublimes and decomposes to ammonia and HCl gas

As these gases travel up in the test tube, they recombine to form NH4Cl in the colder part of test tube which appears as a white precipitate.

when ammonium chloride is heated it changes its state from solid to gas (which is known as sublimation). When the gas comes in contat with the cooler part of test tube, its temperature lowers down and it then chages its state from gas to solid ,this is what we see as white precipitate on the upper part of test tube.
