When the torch does not light up what is the reason ?
 

When the supply of electricity brokes or stop passing on any points of the torch then the torch will not light up.

because the positive terminal of one battery is not connected to negative terminal of the next battery

yes its correct . as the the switch is not switched on the electricity doesnt flows in it
