The ceremonies took place in the lovely sandstone amphitheatre formed by the Union buildings in Pretoria.
For decades,it had been in the control of the white,racist supremacy of South Africa.However now,it marked the gathering of people of all races and from different countries for the installation of South Africa's first non-racial and democratic government.
