which molecule have both sp3 sp3d2 hybridisation
Dear student,
Molecules having Sp3 hybridization exist in tetrahedral geometry. In this type of hybridization one s and three p orbitals are involved. A few example are CH4, H2O, NH3 .. Other examples include coordination complexes of Nickel such as [NiCl4]2-
Molecules that have sp3d2 hybridization exist in octahedral geometry. In this hybridization d orbital of the central atom also takes part besides the s and three p orbitals. example is SF6, Other examples are complexes of copper and cobalt like [Cu(NH3)6] 3+.
No molecule can have two different types of hybridization. If a molecule has a particular type of hybridization then it cannot exist in other type .
But there are some special examples like sp3 and dsp2 hybridization in case of coordination complexes . Both types of hybridization include 4 members , only difference is participation of d orbital and the geometry. sp3 has tetrahedral geometry while dsp2 has square planar geometry.
