Dear Student,

Ashoka was considered as one of the greatest rulers of India who ruled the Mauryan dynasty which comprised almost all of the Indian sub-continent. Ashoka was the grandson of the founder of the Mauryan dynasty, Chandragupta Maurya. Emperor Ashoka expanded his empire right from Afghanistan in the west to Bangladesh in the east and from Kashmir in the north to parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh in the south, excluding regions of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The Ashokan empire had its capital at Pataliputra with provincial capitals at Taxila and Ujjain. The prominent places that were part of the Ashokan Empire include Sanchi, Sarnath, Lumbini, Rampurwa, Kaushambi, Meerut, Kalinga, Jaugada, Dhauli, Yerragudi, Maski, etc.
