While grouping data , why do we need to convert class intervals from inclusive form to exclusive form ? Do we have to do the same while drawing histograms and ogives ?
Dear Student,
When the lower and the upper-class limit is included, then it is an inclusive class interval. Here the class intervals are not continuous. Eg: 220-224, 225-229, 230-234
In such a case problem arises if we have to locate values such as 224.5, 229.5
To avoid this problem we use exclusive class intervals.
Exclusive class intervals are continuous. It includes only the lower class limit.
Eg: 220-225, 225-230, 230-235
Yes we use exclusive class intervals for histograms and ogives.
