Who invented the first CFL and explain its structure and how it works.

CFL stands for compact fluorescent light . It s preferred over incandescent bulbs, as it saves energy. Here is the structure of CFL.

CFLs are eco-friendly. A CFL bulb work without a filament, their energy efficiency helps us to save some electric energy. The working of CFL can be explained by the following points.

The parent to the modern fluorescent lamp was invented in the late 1890s by Peter Cooper Hewitt.

  • The electrical energy from the power supply generates electrons from the CFL electrodes.

  • Emitted electrons collide with mercury atoms present in the CFL tube giving invisible UV light.

  • Finally, UV light is converted into visible light by white phosphor coating of the tubes that we can see.

  • Electronic circuit containing transformer increases the voltage of the incoming electricity so bulb produces more light to glow.
