Who is literat

Dear Student,
A literate person is an individual who has a basic understanding of reading, writing by himself. As per the census of the year 2011, an individual who is of 7 years of age and can read and write by his understanding is considered to be a literate person.
Literacy is considered very important for the development of the nation and the quality of the population because an educated, well-informed person can make intelligent choices not only for oneself but for one's family and the nation. The literate population can develop the nation by going into research and development projects making new technological advancements and taking the country to new heights. Literacy rate of the population also affects the economic situation of the country as illiterate person earns less than the literate one and also is not able to take good and well informed decisions for his family, that is why illiteracy is the serious obstacle that hinders not only the economic growth but the overall development of the nation
The current literacy rate of India is 74.04 percent, 82.14 for males and 65.46 for females.
