Who proposed chromosomal theory of inheritance? Point out any 2 similarities in the behavior of chromosomes and genes

Chromosomal theory of inheritance was proposed by T Boveri and WS Sutton in 1902 through their experiments. This theory explains the the parallel behavior between chromosomes and mendelian factor(genes).
Similarities in behaviour of chromosomes and genes arer as follows:

Both chromosomes and genes occur in pairs in diploid organism.
Both chromosomes and genes loose their paired condition during gamete formation.
It is the pairing and separation of a pair of chromosomes that ultimately leads to segregation of the pair of factors they carry.

Chromosomal theory of inheritance was proposed by Sutton and Boveri.Similarities in the behaviour of chromosomes and genes are:-

  • Both remains in pairs in somatic diploid cells or in diploid individual.
  • They mantains individuality during the transmission of traits during one generation to next generation even mantains individuality in haploid as well as in diploid condition.
  • Gametes always receive one gene from one pair of gene and one chromosome from one chromosomal pair.
  • Chromosome and gene pairing restores during syngamy or fertilization.
