everyone knows that the shudras formed the fourth varna of the indo-aryan society. but very few have cared to inquire who were these shudras and how they came to be the forth varna.

Untouchable or Ati-Shudras are called Avarnas those who have no Varnas. Literally it means even a lower caste than Shudras ( sweepers, garbage collectors, etc.)
